Lipitor - Best Seller For Pfizer
Millions of people take a small white, oval shaped, bitter pill every morning. That pill helps reduce cholesterol, and it is the number one best selling medication in the world. Pfizer and Lipitor have been helping a worldwide medical community reduce their high cholesterol and create a better life for themselves. Lipitor is a best seller for Pfizer, and there’s strategic reasons for that, not just high numbers and millions of people. The product, for lack of a better term, works great and does what it says, and you can’t argue with that can you?
Atorvastatin, better known by the brand name Lipitor, really does in fact lower bad LDL cholesterol in the blood and has really revolutionized primary care by preventing heart attacks or at the very least limiting their impact. Lipitor wasn’t the first drug to offer a fight against high cholesterol, but it most definitely is the most popular. Since 1997 Pfizer aggressively marketed their new drug and created enough buzz to garner $80 billion dollars in sales. It had out performed all other medications, including Viagra. Pfizer boasted that Lipitor was the first mega-blockbuster drug and to date has annual revenues of more than ten billion dollars. Most recent figures have pegged Lipitor at thirteen billion revenues with a projected jump in the last year of its patent.
Lipitor is not simply a false flag drug. It has reduced cholesterol levels by approximately forty to sixty percent. High cholesterol of course is a threatening factor for the heart and today heart disease is the most common problem facing medical professionals today. It has helped drop the risk of heart attacks, chest pain, stroke and heart disease consistently since it first came out in 1997.
It is not just mere luck that Pfizer has Lipitor as a best seller. It is more so the fact that the company laid out a multi-million dollar marketing campaign behind the drug. Furthermore the drug actually works far better than most of its competitor and patients continued to use it throughout the world, seeing great results in the process. It is not for nothing, Pfizer has raked in money hand over fist even under the major scrutiny of its marketing tactics, which have even resulted in a lawsuit at various stages of the promotion of Lipitor. Pfizer has managed to overcome such set backs and the drug remains one of the highest selling prescription drugs around the world.
The numbers speak for themselves, whether you speak of ten billion dollars in revenue annually, or millions of people worldwide currently using Lipitor to help manage their cholesterol, there is no doubt that Pfizer has a winner on its hands. With the patent on Lipitor running out in late 2010, Pfizer will aggressively market the drug to make sure it squeezes out a little more revenue before it becomes a generic drug. No matter how you slice it though, the best selling cholesterol medicine is top tier in terms of revenue for Pfizer but an even greater life safer for millions upon millions of people that rely on it daily.
