Lipitor Side Effects and Details

Lipitor as every other medications can have some side effects.Lipitor is a medication that helps millions upon millions of people with lowering their bad cholesterol. If taken as part of a daily regimen, this medication can help people not only lead better lives, but resist getting a second heart attack, reduce risk of stroke, and so much more. Like with any other prescription medication, there are some risks and side effects involved. There are some effects that are somewhat severe, but the likelihood of those are rare. There have been countless studies to prove the effects occurring in controlled groups.

The most common side effects aren’t too extreme. That’s not to say they are forgettable and shouldn’t be recognized as side effects. They are as follows: headaches, infections, muscle pain, diarrhea, joint pain, inflammation of sinuses, accidental injury, and muscle spasm. These effects do not usually involve all patients and the most common of these “common” side effects is headache.

HeadacheMore uncommon Lipitor side effects occur in up to four percent of people using Lipitor. These include unexplained rashes that are not discolored to the touch. These can be in lots of larger areas, or just on the neck. A more severe rash could also be the sign of something more serious, so if you get a rash that doesn’t go away easily after taking medication for some time, be sure to consult a physician. Abdominal pain can occur, specifically stomach pain, and that followed by a general feeling of weakness.

The flu, back pain, and allergic reaction can also occur in many different patients. Lipitor side effects can cause severe effects to the patient. The flu could have the patient bed ridden and back pain could cause a lack of work or motivation to work. These problems are rare, and once again you should consult a physician if you find this to be a result of taking the medication. Constipation, inflammation of the sinuses, and sore throat is also a side effect of Lipitor and in many patients clears up gradually. The population of Lipitor users that experience this result from the medicine is at most four percent.

Back pain can be one of the side effects.Major Lipitor side effects is something that will immediately need a doctor visit. These too are rare, but it is important to note. Signs of liver damage, such as yellowing eyes  or skin, upper abdominal pain, dark urine or elevated liver enzymes should be taken as serious and should be followed up by a doctor’s visit and a stop to taking the  medication in the mean time. Muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially if you also get fever, feel ill, or see a major breakdown of muscle, known more commonly as rhabdomyolysis. Significant, unexplained changes in urination as well as productive could be a further sign of kidney problems.

Lastly, there are some even more rare side effects that could be difficult to deal with and cause discomfort beyond those listed above. These include lack of appetite, intestinal ulcer, Hepatitis, Asthma, Bloody Nose, Depression, Memory Loss, Hair Loss, Impotence, Ringing in ear, hearing loss, high blood pressure, weight gain, and gout. These are incredibly rare, but harsh in terms of Lipitor side effects.
